I also offer advice on buying drums and volume control. I can also teach just snare drum, drum music theory and/or technique on virtually silent pads. Contact me to book a free consultation.
Playing drums can be a hobby, a passion or even a career choice for students so it is important to work together and pitch lessons correctly to make sure their aims are met.
I use my own Backbone Drums syllabus to structure lessons for those that want a full grounding in playing drums, but can adapt lessons to suit more experienced players that have specific goals in mind.

Series of books covering all aspects of co-ordination, technique, theory, styles and much more.
Having started playing drums at the age of 8, I haven't stopped! From pubs and clubs to large international festival stages, I have gigged and toured for over 30 years all over the world with lots of bands and recorded with just as many.
I started teaching after completing a full time course at London's Drumtech music college in 2002 and subsequently went on to set up and establish my own music school based in Tunbridge Wells, now called Tunbridge Wells School of Music.
I have taught thousands of students and many new drum teachers and in 2010, I published a full Drum Teaching syllabus called Backbone Drums which is now used by teachers and schools all over the UK.
Having sold my music school in 2022, I relocated to Guestling Thorn, where I now offer mobile drum lessons in schools, studios and student's homes while still playing and recording for several bands.
Mum of student
When my, then 9 year-old, son expressed an interest in learning drums I obviously needed to find him a teacher and without a musical bone in my body, it would be a leap of faith!
Eight years on, that interest has been nurtured and developed thanks to the skill, passion and encouragement from Dave.
Adult Student
At the same time as following the syllabus, I also get the opportunity to explore my musical interests. I have the structure that I need as a beginner, and the freedom to explore when I want it. I find this combination has been really helpful in maintaining my motivation as I've got further into the lessons.
Teaching Student
The teaching programme is a very well thought out journey suitable for complete beginners through to an advanced level of playing. There is opportunity to learn all about reading music but also an emphasis on live playing with the use of backing tracks. I think Dave has every base covered.
